Why it's hard to use a database inside a page

Well, I've just realized why it's such a pain to use my own database routines in phpweblog, without causing errors in the script itself.

Why not have a block that is for admins only - For extra functions that we can add? It's a pain having several different URLs to use.

As a proud and happy user of PostgreSQL, I am very keen to see a Database Abstraction layer added soon, it is now top of the TODO list... How far away is it? Have you any idea which you will use, or are you going to code your own?

Missing feature

Is it intentional that there is no counter on the full pages I create?
Apparently stories, links etc get hit-counted. However any full pages linked in the top menubar are left counter-less.
Any easy fix for this?

How hard would it be to change the "Topics" and "Top 5 topics" to something else like "Items"
