Upgrade to latest version

Hi everyone, I've used phpweblog for two months already. During these two months, whenever I tried to change or add images, items or extra codes in the default mode, something always came up in my mind. That something is what should I do to upgrade to the latest version if there is one?
The more I change, the more worry I am. What kind of strategy should I follow, to keep track of changes that any of phpweblogger has used to upgrade their version to the latest and still keep the old settings.
