Announcements phpWebLog 0.5.0 will be release in a day or so if no more bugs are reported. If you are upgrading from 0.4.2, there is a 0.4.2-0.5.0.sql script which will upgrade all database schemas and data. You should make any backups first however. If you run into _any_ problems due to bugs, PLEASE report them to me so I can fix them before the release. The other thing to note is that the Links section was completely rewritten so all your links will be erased. You will have to manually add them back in. The story URL's will be lost as well. Download the latest unstable for the 0.5.0 preview release 2.

    < function F_story($story) (UNSTABLE VER) | User accounts >

Is the story URL disabled or no longer available?

Story URLs are now dynamic, and are called Index Names. If you go to Extended Story Configuration, and add an Index Name called Story URL, you'll still have them.

I was hoping it wouldn't show the whole URL just like "Related Link" or something similiar.

    1. if a topic doesn't allow for comments, under the story, it shouldn't say "read more -- comment" maybe just "read more".

    2. if you are reading a particular topic, the "contribute news" link in the nav bar should pass along that current topics id, i.e.:

    .../contrib.php?topic=36

so that the entry form can use the topic # and select the default topic in the drop down menu.

    3. the orders of "features" don't make much of a difference in the overall scheme of block orders. maybe it's time to separate them out?

    4. story index should have a '(url)' append to it. at first glance i had no idea what i was suppose to put in there. it would be redundant to add '(url)' manually in the name of the index.

    5. Links - link counts per categories should be recursive, i.e. count all link in all the sub-categories below link. currently it only counts one depth deep below.

    6. when at the suggesting a category form, after entering the name of the category, if you press 'Enter' on your keyboard instead of pressing on the "submit" button, the suggested category won't be added, and instead it will take you back to the top level of the link page. however, pressing on "submit" button will submit teh suggested category name.

    7. configuration option for admin to not show the number of stories / pending approval numbers after the topic.

    8. option like story moderation but for comments (both approval and email to admin options). every go thru and delete tens of twentys comments by some childish person who was keyboard happy with a vocab full of swear words and or just words that look like a cat walked on his/her keyboard? not only that, but because of the nested levels of comments and an abundance of stories, it's hard to monitor what kind of comments are being made w/o having to go thru them all, click by click.

    9. like i said a while ago, break out the user config into another page instead of leaving them in common.inc.php. would make upgrades easier.

    10. open cvs so i can submit my work back into the branch so others can benefit from it and maybe save you some time too jason. i'm tired of diff-ing my copy and making manual changes to each of your new snapshots.

    11. from reading the posts, i see users want and don't want user accounts. why not add it and have an option for them NOT to use it? i can do this port.

    12. the current template system doesn't give me much flexibility as does phplib's tempate system. would you consider a change?

    13. how about a PHPWebLogAPI so others can write modules for it w/o disturbing the rest of the parts? in other words redesign/restructure it so that it's more modular. an example: if i have a weather module, i can just tell a "block" to use the weather module instead of having to fetch via another HTTPD process. saves on server load, and bandwidth.

    14. how about a nice cold beer right now? (i'm thirsty)

Argh, i knew i forgot something, language filter. ;-)

oh yeah, ispell / aspell check of submitted articles so users can have a chance of correcting their typos?

seriously this is my last thing.. SQL independent. i'm moving to PostgreSQL that's why. so ugh i can do this part too. but i need CVS access.

Expect to see phpWebLog opened via CVS in the near future.
    Ryan writes on Thursday February 01 2001 @ 03:48AM EST: [ reply | parent ]
Yeah.. SQL independancy would be good.. (and quite
    easy to integrate..)
