I think it would be wild to somehow integrate PHPWeblog with PHPBB, in such a way that all MAIN categories (such as "general" and "announcements") would automatically have their own forum topics, and then all news posted under those categories would create their own forum posts. Maybe the entire thing could be under a main forum topic of "web log" or something similar. This way the strings of responses would be clean like the new style of PHPBB but still integrated into PHPWeblog.

    Follow?

    PHPBB?

PHPBB is a PHP bulletin board, their website is www.phpbb.com but it seems to be down right this instant.

    Anyway, ok, here's the deal:

I am the admin of PHPWeblog. I have 2 categories, one called "General" and one called "News". Now, in the PHPBB there will automatically be created 2 new forum subcategory in the main forum category "weblog" (or something similar), called "News" and "General".

Now, I post a news item in the "General" category in PHPWeblog and a new "topic" in PHPBB is created. Therefore, when a user clicks on the "post comments" from an entry in PHPWeblog, they are taken directly to that topic in PHPBB. It is as if they clicked on a link to get to the BB, then clicked the correct topic. Do you follow? I hope - it's hard to explain but I think it's a great idea.

Basically, I think it would be awesome for PHPWeblog in that the admin could use it as sort of a forum discussion creator. You see? I post a piece of news or commentary, and if people have something to say they click to post a comment and it takes them right into that particular section of the forum, where the layout is much nicer and cleaner. All topic creation would have to be done automatically when the admin posts new news, or else it probably wouldn't be worth it, too hard to do it all manually.

This would be a great addition to the already great software of PHPWeblog. Take care!

A great idea indeed. Now the question is who will do the actual work.

    NukeAddon.com uses PHPBB here: http://www.nukeaddon.com/index_forum.php

If I knew PHP or had time to learn it I would do it. I'd be willing to help out in some way though...

i still don't get why you'd want to use phpweblog AND phpbb? they are two different ways of doing the same thing... storie/question followed by responses. so why would you want the redundancy?

Why do you say a web blog and a BB are two different ways of doing the same thing? A web log is for posting news and comments and commentary, but a BB is a forum for discussions. I just think it would be cool to link the two together, so all commentaries have a forum for user feedback/discussion.

from a programmer's point of view i meant they are similar in concept. when you are discussing in a forum, aren't you making comments?

I'm totally with Matt on this one. It's a great idea and I've been trying to integrate the two as much as I can without much php knowledge. I realize it's now October and this thread was in february but I hope someone sees it!

mochaexpress, it is similar.... But phpweblog is made for news and comments, phpbb for discussions... If you haven't seen a phpbb forum then you probably wouldn't get what we're saying. It would be great to have the best of both.
