    Input for Addon views: 270

A (potential) customer has asked for a shopping-cart for pwl, so I am now in the planning stage for that.
Here are some of the features I want to include:
    php4-sessions (fallback optional)
    (multi-level?) categories
    multiple shipping addresses
    variants for items (sizes, colors...)
    choice of shipping/payment
    ccn-validation
    user-registration
    save/review basket
    wish-list
    "mini-basket" in a block
    csv-import
..basically a lot like thinkgeek, only as a pwl-addon. Closer to TheExchangeProject than to phpShop, only not just so big and complex, if you know what I mean.
My request to the community: comment heavily on this to let me know which of these features you would like included/removed/added/changed etc.
I really value any input, as I want a solution to cover most applications that people can think of and not only one for my particular needs.

The user registration part is crucial here, as whatever you do will probably be integrated into PWL itself for story editing, etc.

In other words, once this system is in place, I'd like to expand on your user accounts to include permissions so that PWL itself can use it for logins/moderators/admins, etc.

I'd like to use this feature for addons too.

Something to consider is there are considerable issues involved in privacy and security, esp. regarding Credit Card information. I would be VERY careful about storing card data in the same database that the PWL stories and such are stored. It's at worst an inconvenience if my site gets cracked, and someone gets my database password. They might deface the site, or trash it, but there's no real harm done.

It's quite another if they find Credit card numbers, names, and expiration dates.

Most pwl sites are hosted on free or cheap hosts. How many of them have mysql on the same box as the apache/php server? How many have properly implemented SSL?

Just some things to keep in mind. I tend towards the paranoid on these things, because the legal exposure for the site owner could be considerable.

Good point, You'll be able to use a seperate DB for shop-data if you want.
But if a site want's to include a shop, it should also be put on a secure host. In the end, that is the siteowner's decision. There are many very insecure small shops around already.
Are there any suggestions for making a shop more secure?

SSL of course, and use mcrypt for encoding data for database storage.
