Trouble installing... can't load DB info

I'm trying to migrate a working setup of PHPWebLog to a new server, and I'm having problems. I've run the SQL scripts and confirmed that the right tables & data are in the database. But when I go to the front page for PHPWebLog, it shows me the layout without having loaded any story data or anything from the DB. There aren't any errors--the database name, login, etc. are correct as set in common.inc.php--but there are not stories, no information loaded at all. When I go to the admin page, it asks me for a password and then the admin index page gives me a slew of errors.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot!
