Error in Admin

I'm setting up PHPWebLog on a Linux 6.1 server with PHP 3.0.12.
When I go through the admin/config.php3, and save changes, I get the following error:
"Call to unsupported or undefined function imagecreatefromgif() in inc.d/common.inc.php on line 682"
The database changes are saved, and the syntax in common.inc.php looks right to me. Any idea...?

You need to build you php module with gd support. Given the error mesasge, I'd guess this package needs the older gd lib (1.3x) that hads the gif support in it. Present gd ligs have no support for gifs, only png and jpeg. So if you use the stock gd and gd-devel rpms that come with "Linux" 6.1 (I assume you meen RedHat. FYI RedHat is a great distro, but does not == Linux) and recompile your php module to include gd support, you should not have that error.
Now, if you need help doing the above, my advise to you is RTFM, it is your friend and will answer 99% of you questions.

You could also set $G_GD = 0 in common.inc.php. This will disable the use of imagecreatefromgif().

Any particular reason that you are using an ancient distro of php? 3.0.12 is ancient, from April of 99 if I remember correctly. I know RedHat comes with it, but its ancient. PHP4 is much faster, and if you just build it using APXS then you won't even have to re-compile apache, and you can get GD support as well.

I tried setting "extension=libgd.so" in /etc/httpd/conf/php.ini and installed the libgd library in mandrake, but it doesn't work, any ideas?

never mind =) I didn't realize I already had libgd installed, but its 1.8, I can downgrade because PHP won't work without PNG support =(
