Fatal error: Call to unsupported

First of all, excuse the double posting. I realize a post under the wrong topic.
Just finished the installation of release 0.3.0 and when trying to save changes in the admin section I receive this message:
Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function imagecreatefromgif() in inc.d/common.inc.php on line 682.
I should note that I have no root acces to server.

What this means is that your PHP installation doesn't have th GD stuff, and so you need to disable GD stuff (theres a $GD up at the top of common.inc I think that you need to turn off) The other thing could be that it does have GD, but teh PNG version instead, in which case you need to download teh images that it uses, and tehn change all the imageGIF and imagecreatefromGIF's to imagePNG and imagecreatefromPNG's and tehn it should work. This is more or less covered better in the new (unstable) versions...

I did as Theodore said, I made sure that PHP was compiled with GD support. (I'm pretty sure I did this right, although it says nowhere what I'm supposed to put for the --with-gd config option--it says "the GD install dir"... well how am I supposed to know what directory GD was installed to? It came with Mandrake, and when I search for the GD files they are installed both in /usr/lib and /usr/include. So I chose the /usr/include directory.) I also changed all the gd GIF calls to PNG and I changed all the relevant .gif files to .png files using gimp. I restarted Apache and refreshed the page that was giving the error, but it made no difference. This is driving my nuts.
