Older stories, but differently

At the moment, older stories contains the last so-many stories that did not make it to the front page.
How about the following: the front page shows all entries that were made today, while older stories goes back X number of days. In the config there could be an option that lets you decide if you want day-based older stories or number-of-posts-based older stories.
Anyone else thinks this sounds like a good idea?

If there's only one story, then you only _show_ one story.
If there's no story then you either display nothing, or you display the last day that actually had stories.
The problem is not so much in the fact that there's no stories, but I want to have all today's stories on my frontpage, while the 'older stuff' gets pushed back in the archives (or at least not on the front page).

I would rather have a "Featured Story of the Day" then the feature you mentioned. Sometimes I don't post anything and I like something on the index page for the vistor to look at.
Maybe you could bump up the amount of stories you display on your index to 30 or 40.

Hmm.
Still, for a daily weblog having your log day-based instead of posting based has a lot of advantages.
That's why it might be good to have it as a config option instead of default :)

Just display the last ten/20/30/40/5000 stories, allowing the user to set how many in preferences. In other words, impliment user accounts allowing people to customize the site to their preferences :) I like the development so far, but this is a major feature still missing...
http://beta.orblivion.com/ is your code running on one of my servers, I'm pretty impressed other than the lack of the functionality. If I had the time (currently building/implimenting beowulf on 64 sparc machines) I would write it for you. Just thought you might like my input on the subject.

You also might want to change the way your stuff parses input, I hate it when forms delete spaces when there are more than two in a row :)

I can see this feature only as a configuration option.
For my low volume news site, I'd want a full page worth
of news to show.
I don't mind that you want something else, as long as
I can keep the status quo! :)

My site isn't exactly high volume either, but I like the idea of splitting content on days - or at least have the ability to do that.
