There was a small bug in the original phpweblog-0.3.0.tar.gz where searching from the text box caused an incomplete SQL error. (thanks for reporting this Ed).
As of right now, the latest tarball fixes this, or below you'll find a easy fix:
search.php line 51, insert a line:
if (empty($limit)) { $limit = 30; }
so that the fixed area will look like:
} else {
if (empty($limit)) { $limit = 30; }
switch ($what) {
